After participating in vivid discussions in Jharkhand Assembly elected representatives have now headed back to their constituencies with brave face, heads held high and to ascertain whether their participation brought any change in the ground realities. For the Member of legislative Assembly of Jharkhand the time is now to connect with people of their constituency and see what difference they have made with their participation.
Notably, the Budget Session concluded on March 30 with the approval of Budget and not without verbal volley between Government and Opposition MlAs. Janta Darbar, public meetings and connecting with people in whatever way possible in on the cards of MlAs especially those who steered their way into the Assembly for the first time. “After raising questions of public importance it is now time to follow-up what the government has done to address the problems. Now, I will organise janta darbar at panchayats, listen to the problems of people at two janta seva Kendra that I have set up at Bahragora and Chakulia,” said Bahragora MlA, Kunal Sarangi.
Sarangi was specifically vocal about dilapidated condition of NH-33 and raised the violation of labour laws by an induction factory at Bahragora alleging that the labourers of his constituency are at risk because of compromised safety standards besides sloppy human resource management with potentially devastating consequences for the dependents of those labourers.
Being with the winning side and part of the governing party creates additional pressure on its MlAs. Nonetheless, unperturbed with the burdens of expectations the MlAs of ruling Bhartiya Janta Party are hobnobbing with administration for addressing problems of their constituency and spending hours among public to keep the hope of better days afloat amid the clarion call for making the system respond to the people’s need.
“lot of change is required. I have seen that not much has changed and problems have remained as it is. Yet I am in field and the series of inspections, public meeting will continue. People have high hopes because of a majority government and also because of my association with the ruling party. So, I try to spend as much time among them as possible to solve their problems,” said Khijri MlA, Ram Kumar Pahan.
For those who dedicated their life to the society and rose to the status of an elected representative with years of service are now happier to go back to their people to undertake assessment impact of their performance in Assembly. It is time for almost everyone who made their way to Jharkhand Assembly to work with greater intensity to fulfill aspirations of the people of their constituencies. Surprisingly some cutting across party line expressed their gratitude for small measures taken by the government to bring relief to people.
“I am spending every minute in my constituency which is my temple. I came to Ranchi to attend a meeting of Estimate Committee and will head back straight to my constituency after that,” said Jarmundi MlA, Badal Patralekh adding that the Government has kept its promise on the question of disbursement of relief material to the victims of a natural calamity. Public meetings, surprise checks of medical services and interacting with government officials are some of the preferred activities of MlAs.
