In a first ever interstate destruction of the cash crop poppy, a contingent of the Palamu police joined hands with Bihar's Rohtas police and devastated a near full grown poppy cultivation worth 20 crores of rupees in the drug market.
Sources said poppy was in full bloom in around 8 bighas of land called Sonedeela of the river Sone. It's an interstate territory notorious for marijuana, illicit wine and illicit guns.
It was the Palamu police that first got a tip off about the poppy.
As the cultivated area falls under Bihar's Rohtas district, SP Rohtas was taken into confidence and a plan was chalked out jointly by the Palamu police (Jharkhand) and Rohtas police (Bihar).
A massive invasion of this poppy cultivation was done by the Palamu police and the Rohtas police 'very recently' (date has been kept confidential).
Rohtas police contingent was led by its two SDPOs - namely Dehri and Dehri O1. Jharkhand Palamu's police squad was led by the SDPO Hussainabad S Mohammad Yakub.
"The poppy was all full grown. It was in around 8 bighas of land. The land falls majorly in Bihar" said Yakub.
The destruction of around 8 bighas of poppy went on flawlessly although it was a highly challenging job, reiterated the SDPO Hussainabad.
A team of the FSL Bihar collected the samples of the poppy grown and later destroyed by the two state police Jharkhand and Bihar.
Again the poppy crop was destroyed in the presence of the magistrate, said sources.
Never in the history of war on poppy such a co-ordinated onslaught was ever carried out in the Hussainabad sub division of police.
DGP Anurag Gupta has asked for a war on poppy cultivation. It is destroyed in its vegetative state itself. Men behind this are caught.
DGP has asked the police to take stern and tough action against this crop and its cultivator. The sponsors of these illicit cultivation remain in hiding. The DGP has asked the police to take out such sponsors of their holes, said the IG of police Palamu zone Sunil Bhaskar.
