Noticing the poor result of Jharkhand’s intermediate science background students since the formation of the state 13 years back, Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) will organise mock tests from January 8 to 11 in respective colleges.
This is for the first time JAC has taken such an initiative to enhance the preparation of students appearing for intermediate examination in the science stream. The colleges where intermediate teaching is going on will have to download the question paper one hour before the beginning of the mock tests from the website of JAC.
According to JAC sources, students have been instructed to bring plain answer books for writing this examination. “Since the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state, the performance of science students has remained below 50 percent. This mock test is planned to improve their performance in the board examination,” said JAC Joint Secretary Arvind Kumar Jha.
Notably, last year intermediate results have thrown up a mere 38.28 per cent success rate in the science stream. In 2012 it was 48.37 per cent whereas in 2011 it was just 33.70 per cent. On September 11, JAC had organised a workshop for around 100 teachers of the state regarding improving the records of intermediate science stream students. Principal of St Xavier’s College Nicholas Tete and Delhi Public School Principal J Mohanty had then participated in this awareness programme.
To improve academic output, JAC opted for the model question paper format, held workshops for teachers and extra classes for weak students in session 2012-13. Students scoring second division were more in the number of passouts this time. The mock tests of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics will be held on January 8, 9, 10 and 11 between 10:45 am to 2pm.
