Pollution board breather for BSl, DVC power plant

Published on:

The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB) has given crucial relief to two major industrial units. DVC-owned Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS) and Bokaro Steel ltd (BSl) have been granted time till June 8 and 15, respectively, for complying with norms.

A senior JSPCB official said, “CTPS shall come up with a solution for disposing of solid waste, fly ash or other discharges and submit a compliance report. The regional office of Dhanbad will submit inspection report and compliance on the direction given to the unit.”

The power plant will also have to submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) within 15 days for the new unit, which, incidentally, already has environmental clearance. CTPS has been ordered to submit details of all drains leaking to River Damodar, within a fortnight and on the action taken for amalgamation of all four drains into a single drain.

Earlier, while issuing notices, the board had threatened to forfeit their bank guarantees.

BSl is supposed to do a composite sampling of drainage and submit the report within a month. It also has to submit a detailed action plan on disposal of slag and other solid waste by June 15, along with one on installing ETP.
