Ranchi University (RU) will conduct the final round of student union election for five posts that include president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and general secretary on Tuesday. All the 90 selected representatives of 18 constituent colleges and postgraduate departments under RU elected on December 9 will vote through indirect method on Tuesday to select five student union representatives. Approximately, 18 candidates are contesting for the polls for different posts this year.
Notably, after the last incident of student clash that took place during the vote count after the election was concluded at college level, the security at the university’s administrative campus has been beefed up ensuring all mandatory arrangements. All compulsory arrangements at Maulana Azad Senate Hall have been complete. The voting is scheduled from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and will be carried under the supervision of concerned officer-in-charges in the stimulated time. The vote counting and oath-taking ceremony are scheduled on December 21.
Recently, during a vote count, a group of student union members created ruckus at Marwari College. Taking the stringent action district administration has been asked to ensure proper security measures at University Administrative Block.
Returning officer of the polls cum Associate Professor of Mathematics at Marwari College RR Das said, “The voting will be for five posts including president, vice-president, secretary, joint-secretary and deputy secretary. Instructions have been issued to the contestants, officers on duty for the final round of election. This year, we have received 18 nominations for all the five posts. Six contestants have registered for the president post whereas two nominations are for vice-president post. Four students are contesting election for the post of secretary while two contestants are for the post of joint Secretary. For the post of Deputy Secretary, the varsity has received four names.”
