Political posturing starts as poll time nears

Published on:

Poll time is not far away in Jharkhand which is going to begin with Kolibera bypoll late this year, followed closely by bigger battles in the form of first Lok Sabha and then Assembly elections.

This prompted both the ruling BJP as well as main Opposition party JMM to go to their respective drawing boards.

The BJP announced new district presidents for Giridih, Bokaro and East Singhbhum and inducted the erstwhile district presidents into State Executive Committee. Chief Minister Raghubar Das sat with State party chief Laxman Gilua and host of office bearers.

“The party has named Prakash Seth for Giridih, Gagarnath Ram for Bokaro and Saroj Mahapatra for East Singhbhum as districts presidents. Also outgoing district presidents Sunil Agarwal of Giridih, Binod Mahto of Bokaro and Chandicharan Sahu of East Singhbhum have been inducted into State Executive Committee,” said the State BJP chief on Sunday.

During the meeting the Chief Minister instructed the office bearers to work with grass root party workers and focus on every booth. “The CM was clear that the party workers should start preparing for next polls. The workers should focus on spreading the schemes and good works done by the BJP Governments both at the Center and the State. There is no point the party feel defensive about anything,” said a senior party leader.

Main Opposition party of the State-JMM- assembled at Vidhan Sabha seminar hall in the leadership of party supremo Shibu Soren, executive present Hemant Soren, party’s MPs and MLAs and several other senior leaders and members of the party’s executive committee.

“The meeting was to convey to all the party workers about failures of the BJP after remaining so many years in power. There is no sight of development anywhere but the Government is hell bent to spread falsehood. You can see law and order situation in the capital , extent of corruption at the top level and no concern in the Government about plight of poor and tribal people who have been displaced all over the State due to crony capitalist policies. The Government is only working for its corporate friends at the cost of the people,” said JMM executive president and Leader of Opposition Hemant Soren after the meeting. A delegation of the party would meet Governor Droupadi Murmu on these issues.

The party also told its workers about future course of politics in the State and preparations about it. Discussion over polls at three States which have been announced also took place.
