In order to curb encroachment problem on important roads in the steel city, the traffic wing of the district police has started using public announcement system for warning the vehicle owners before towing away the vehicles beyond the parking area.
For the first time, the traffic cops are using loud-speaker for warning the vehicle owners before towing their vehicles. The traffic cop towed 10 cars and 14 two-wheelers from Bistupur main road and slapped penalty from the vehicle owners today.
Deputy superintendent of police (traffic), Srivendra, said that the drive was introduced from the Bistupur main road and similar drive will be carried out in other localities also, including Sakchi, Golmuri, Mango and Jugsalai.
"We would earlier carry on our drive without giving any warning to the vehicle owners. But now, we have started it in a different way so that the vehicle owners concerned will not have anything to complain against us. We are, therefore, giving 30 minutes time by making announcing that the vehicle having registration number such and such is parked illegally," said the traffic DSP.
He pointed out if the vehicle owners turns up within the 30 minutes time, then one drive away from the spot without paying penalty. But if someone comes after this stipulated time, his vehicle will be towed.
Besides, he will have to pay Rs 500 as penalty.
