Driving licence of persons riding or driving a vehicle in the influence of alcohol will now be cancelled by the Traffic Police. Intensive checking of vehicles in the State Capital has been conducted from last week.
“If you are planning to take alcoholic drinks somewhere and go home by driving yourself, you are mistaken as you will be caught on the way by our traffic personnel and your licence will be cancelled. Hence it is suggested not to come out on the roads on your vehicle from today onwards as intensive anti-drunken driving has been started,” said Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh. All the four Traffic Police Stations have been alerted in this regard, he added.
The SP said that the anti-drunken driving drive has been started a bit early this year to propagate a message among the hooligans to refrain from driving after taking drinks during this New Year.
“The drive will now be continued till people do not stop the practice of driving after taking drinks and also get into the habit of remain indoors after enjoying with their friends and relatives,” said the SP. Remarkably, the number of accidents last year were very less than the previous year after similar drive was launched to check drunken driving, he added.
“Our personnel have been deputed at all vulnerable locations along with the breath analysers with them to check everyone driving on the road whether he is on a two wheeler or four wheeler,” said the SP. Nobody, whoever he is, will be allowed to violate traffic routes, he added. In addition to that, Police personnel in civil uniform will keep a close eye on the drunken persons creating ruckus on the picnic spots while traffic police will depute traffic personnel on the roads leading to those spots to check drunken driving.
“Police patrolling will be intensified during this new year covering all picnic spots in the City to check people creating scenes and making vulgar comments after taking drinks,” said City SP Aman Kumar. Policemen in plain clothes will also be there to keep a close eye on the hooligans and maintain peace on the picnic spots, he added. Meanwhile, Ranchi Police will ensure on-the-spot security to the people on the occasion of New Year revelry at the picnic spots located in the remote and lonely areas. Rural SP said that all concerned Police Stations will also be put on alert mode to deal with any untoward incident this New Year.
“Proper security arrangement on all picnic spots coming into our jurisdiction along with the patrolling parties making long Range Patrolling of the area from time to time,” said SP (Rural) Ajit Peter Dung Dung. In addition to that local volunteers of the nearby areas are also deployed to keep a close vigil on the anti-social elements, he added. “Divers and swimmers from the nearby areas have been identified to remain on the picnic spots to deal with any untoward incidents,” said the SP. Three waterfalls - Sita, Dasham and Jonha falls come under Ranchi district where proper deployment of forces will be done on the occasion of New Year, he added.
