The district police have decided to crack the whip on bikes, cars and other commercial vehicles having fancy number plates. On the directive of Bokaro Superintendent of Police Kartik S, we have decided to conduct special checking drive form 21 March across the district, said Sunil Rajwar, DSP, Traffic.
The traffic police are on move to intensify a drive form 22 March to penalise vehicles with fancy as well as faulty number plates. Police often fail to note down the registration number of a vehicle involved in a crime or mishap because of different fonts on number plates or just a fancy number plate, said the DSP.
Faulty plates are those that do not adhere to the colour, size and space specifications, while fancy number plates are those that have unusual fonts or stylish depictions of numerals, he explained. “Stringent action would be taken against those vehicle owners”, added Rajwar.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, the registration letters on a number plate should be in black against a white background for private cars and two-wheelers, and black against yellow for commercial vehicles, he said. “Vehicles should also properly display number plates in front and on the rear portion,” added DSP.
The action would also be taken against those cops, found with red-blue number plates on their private vehicles, said Rajwar.
