It is very common and everybody knows that when police seize vehicles they simply dump them at police stations. The vehicles not only occupy unnecessary space but get decayed fast as they are exposed in open weather.
Even new vehicles lose its road worthiness if kept stationary at the police stations for more than 15 days. And as result the vehicles do not remain fit to be driven on the road after getting released from police station.
A number of police stations in Ranchi are witnessing the scenario where rotten vehicles have turned them into junkyards and this is happening despite the Supreme Court of India’s direction to all State governments and Union Territories to ensure macro implementation of the statutory provisions.
The court had directed the Director Generals of Police to ensure that the activities of every police station, especially in disposal of the seized vehicles, shall be taken care of by the Inspector General, Commissioner of Police and Superintendent of Police concerned. And, if any police officer does not comply with the directions, it should be strictly dealt.
