Police seek Speaker's nod to grill two Ministers

Initiating the process to interrogate the two ministers - Welfare Minister Haji Hussain Ansari and Urban Development Minister Suresh Paswan - in the Tara Shahdeo case, the Ranchi police on Wednesday sent an application to the Jharkhand Assembly Speaker, Shashank Shekhar Bhokta, seeking his permission for quizzing them.

Shahdeo, who was allegedly tortured by her estranged husband after she refused to embrace Islam, has claimed that the two Ministers used to visit their Blair Apartment residence quite often. Bhokta, however, said that he will take any decision only after seeking the legal opinion from the Advocate-General.

"We have sent a formal request for the Speaker's permission to interrogate the two Ministers and hope to get it very soon," said SP City Anoop Birthare. Birthare, referring to Kohli's remand ending on Wednesday, said that he will be sent to jail after being produced before the court and the police will not pray for it any further. He, however, said that his mother may be taken on remand if they need any further information in the case.

"Although she has been interrogated for over 24 hours after they got arrested, she may further be taken on remand within a day or two if required," said Birthare. Meanwhile, Deoghar SDPO Animesh Naithani, talking to media persons in Ranchi on Wednesday, denied his links with Kohli. Naithani, however, asserted that he had once facilitated Baba Darshan at Deoghar temple to a CBI judge after receiving a call from Kohli with the reference of his batch mate DSP Surjeet Singh.
