A road accident in winter night and in an area where extremism has never been any out despite a sharp decline of it here in Palamu it was time for Panki police in Palamu to prove its mettle in such a great odd and dangerous situation. Panki police proved its mettle but with active common people support arranged by an individual!
Police public joint effort sets an example here in Palamu said sources. A four wheeler fell down from the Bardagga Bridge built on PMGSY road there and too close to Hotai a citadel of Maoists. Two died on the spot. Six were injured.
A tribal family belonging to Oraon caste of Angra village under Paton police station was coming from Hotai after a marriage negotiation when the four-wheeler jumped off the bridge and fell down leading to the instantaneous death of two Oraon youths on the spot. The injured were under the upside down vehicle. There was no help around.
Manoj Kumar Tiwary officer in charge of Panki police station said, “We got this news of death and of injured people. The locale of this accident was most dangerous. It was night and villagers do not come out of their houses in such a situation and odd time. Every minute was precious for us and for the injured ones.”
“I got in touch with a civil society activist Mumtaz Khan and told him of the whole situation. Khan immediately offered us all kinds of help. He sent in driver, vehicle and other logistics. Khan helped us like anything. Words fail me to express my gratitude to him” said this inspector of police Tiwary
“We reached here with one minimum mines proof vehicle and one bullet proof vehicle. We rescued the injured. We retrieved the two dead. We even pulled up the fallen vehicle and it was a sheer luck it got started and running. Khan sent in the villagers. He kept waiting for us at Asehar till past 2.30 at night. The injured were admitted in the community health centre in Panki itself. All are out of danger.”
Khan said, “I got a call from inspector Tiwary ji and I just got on the work. I contacted my men at Asehar where is my stone crushing plant and there are guards too there. I got woke up many villagers there too who helped police in rescue and relief as well. I believe every citizen should do this. I returned home in Daltonganj around 3 AM on Friday night.”
Sources said senior police officials were too batted for breath as anything could have happened here and the easiest of all was the ambush from the extremists side but the entire rescue and relief operation for the ill fated Oraon family just passed off without any more mishap.
