Police personnel get 5 minutes response training

In a bid to make Shakti Commandos more effective and reduce the response time of police, a joint training session of Shakti commandos and beat police officials was organised on Thursday. Senior SP Kuldeep Dwivedi said on the occasion that the police were in process of making beat policing more effective and to connect Shakti Commandos from beat, so that both work in a collective manner to strengthen policing in the city.

“We are in process of assigning Shakti Commando teams to more localized beats, so that they act swiftly. We are also trying to reduce response time to a maximum of five minutes, so that a woman anywhere in distress finds police officials around her within no time. We want to promise a safe city for women,” said Dwivedi after training session named Police Apke Dwar (Police at your doorsteps) concluded in Police line.

The Shakti Commando teams, which were flagged off by Chief Minister Raghubar Das in March last year to help women in distress and stop crime against women, were deployed at St Xavier's College, Ranchi Women's College, Marwari College, Nirmala College, Ranchi College, Doranda College, Jagganath College, St Paul College and a couple of other colleges. The police have found itself in uncomfortable situation after gang-rape and murder of a B-Tech on December 16 last year in the city, in which criminals still remain untraced.

Sadar DSP and Ranchi police spokesperson Vikas Chandra Shrivastava said that Shakti Commando, beat police and composite police control room were all in function for women and students safety and security. “The training included how to respond to particular situation and afterwards, apart from how to work in a collaborated manner,” said Srivastava.

“The entire training session was aimed at making police more responsible and making people feel that at least some police personnel were within the reach of everyone within no time. The personnel were asked to form more and more localized Whatsapp groups, share numbers with apartment residents and shopkeepers, so that they don’t only feel connected to the police but also feel safe,” said Sergeant Major TK Jha after the session.
