The State Government has passed a directions to set up a police outposts on the campuses of universities in order to curb crimes and ensure the security of students and teachers.
Sources informed that the step has been taken after the Chancellor of State universities Droupadi Murmu inquired about the safety and security aspect from the VCs of the state universities recently.
The Raj Bhavan is said to have shot off letter to DGP D K Pandey for setting up police outpost at various State universities. The NPU took the lead and demanded one police outpost on its campus here in Daltonganj.
The DGP has written to SP Palamu for police OP at NPU said SP Palamu Patel Mayur who said the DGP's letter for police OP has reached him and action is on the anvil.
VC A N Ojha and Pro VC Bijay Singh further explained that it was Raj Bhavan which had stood solidly for the safety and security of the officials and ersonnel working in five of the state universities. Ojha and Singh said the DGP's letter was in the wake of the Raj Bhavan's directive to him.
SP Palamu has suggested the NPU officials to earmark accommodation water facility electricity facility for the jawans for this police out post. The VC and Pro VC have assured the facilities for the jawans.
SP Palamu said since Palamu cops numbering around 500 have gone to Sawan Duty in Deoghar and hence the wait is for their return and once the forces come back to Palamu this opening of police out post will be a reality.
Sources said the necessity to have a police OP was felt at highest level in Raj Bhavan as unruly scenes, students stir their angry demonstrations, detaining university officials inside the builodings for hours etc have become almost a week's affair which results in depreciative out put of the universities.
NPU has seen more cases of stirs on the campus in its short spanof just 7 years and hence police OP s much needed here at the administrative building of the university which functions from the rented house of zila parishad.
