Following tough talks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Raghubar Das to stop violence in the name of cow vigilantism, State Police have girded loins to stop anti-social elements, especially, those who get involved in communal violence. ADG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police Spokesperson RK Mallick said on Friday that the police are using deterrence as a measure to check such incidents in future as strict action against wrongdoers has been taken and several persons have been arrested in different cases.
“Stern action is being taken against those involved in such incidents, a number of persons have been arrested from Ramgarh, Giridih and Saraikela districts…This is how we are trying to send a signal to the perpetrators that no one will be spared if found indulged in such activities,” said Mallick. It is a kind of deterrence being used against such people to prevent such incidents in future, he added.
“Remarkably, no major incident of cow vigilantism has occurred in the State after that, barring one or two minor incidents which were controlled within time,” said he. Meanwhile, the district police all over the State have been asked to strengthen their intelligence network so that people involved in it could be nabbed before the execution of such crimes, added the ADG.
“An exhaustive list of 196 such people has been prepared imposing section 107 against them while CCA is being imposed against those who have 3-4 cases related to communal incidents against them,” said Ramgarh SP Kishore Kaushal.
Kaushal further said that five persons, out of the 12 persons named in the FIR filed in the lynching incident, where a 45-year-old trader Alimuddin was lynched by a mob in Ramgarh on June 29, have been arrested. “We have requested the District Administration to refer the matter to a fast track court for speedy trial and get the culprits punished as soon as possible in order to create a sense of deterrence among the people to prevent such incidents in future,” said the SP.
It was the second attack in recent days as cow vigilantes in Jharkhand as a 200-strong mob thrashed a 55-year-old Muslim dairy owner and set his house ablaze after a cow carcass was found near his house in Giridih district on June 27.
Earlier, in March 2016, two Muslim cattle traders were found hanged to death in latehar district. The victims, Mazlum Ansari and teenager Imteyaz Khan were heading to an animal fair in a nearby district when they were allegedly lynched and hanged by a mob. later, five people were arrested under the charge of murder.
Recently on July 18 also, a 20 year youth Mohammad Afroz, was beaten brutally in the name of cattle smuggling at Gharjori village under East Basuria Police Station in Dhanbad District but his life was saved after police inference. The villagers said that Afroz was found to be shepherding three animals from a herd of cows which create confusion among them. When they asked about it, he could not give satisfactory answers due to which he was beaten up suspecting him to be a cattle thief.
