A hardcore extremist and area commander of the JPC (Jharkhand Parstuti Committee) , Purushottam alias Basant Ganjhu, was arrested along with four other companions on Saturday night by Hazaribagh police.

Police has recovered one pistol and six live cartridges from them. Purshottam Ganjhu was the main accused in the case of torching the Garg petrol pump situated near Matukdwar Barkagaon road a week ago.

SP Akhilesh Jha informed it in a PC organized on Sunday noon. He said that he and DSP Arvind Kumar Singh got secret information that Purushottam Ganjhu along with some members of his gang is sitting near Pararia, Katkamdag. DSP immediately rushed towards the spot but perhaps Ganjhu has somehow got the clue of this information and hence when police team reached there no one was found. After intensive enquiry we came to know that the ultras gang has entered into the jungle. DSP went inside the forest alone but after sometimes came back as per our plan.

Thus we bluffed the ultras by acting as if we have left the place and now there is no fear. Thinking the very same way, they came out of the forest and then went to a house in the village nearby. We were waiting for that moment and as they entered into the house, police surrounded that particular house from outside and arrested all the members of JPC.

SP Jha said that in the Petrol pump burning case which took place on November 4 Ganjhu was the main accused along with Dasrath Yadav, Ranjan, Gambhir, Ramesh, Naageshwar Ganjhu, Aitraaj Ganjhu and Ishwar Ganjhu. On November 2, Purushottam had visited the Garg petrol pump and threatened the security guards to keep the petrol pump closed until the owner of the petrol pump doesn’t contact them. But the police made the petrol pump reopen and then Purushottam reached the petrol pump on November 4 night and set it on fire. They also destroyed the newly opened SBI ATM present in the same premises, damages estimated to be Rs. 7 lakhs.

Arrest of Purushottam Ganjhu is a great achievement for the police and they are extremely delighted on accomplishing this task. Interrogation is going on at high levels with all the arrested JPC ultras.
