Ranchi police have arrested five notorious criminals who were involved in murder, bank loot and extortion in the district. Two automatic pistols, three country-made guns several cartridges, two bikes and Rs 1.36 lakh cash looted from bank have been recovered from them.
The arrested persons are namely Ranjit Tirkey, Chunda Khalko, Rajkumar Munda, Lal Munda and Ramesh Munda.
Ranchi SSP Anish Gupta said that police received information late on Monday night regarding gathering of anti-social elements at Patratoli village with the intention to commit crime. A police team reached the spot and marched some distance on foot to surround the area where the criminals were situated. The criminals tried to escape after seeing the police but all of them were nabbed.
Gupta informed that Ranjit was involved in over a dozen cases adding that he committed dacoity in LIC office in Khunti in 2004. He also took away valuables from Namkum post office and looted 22 lakh rupees from Oversea Bank in Khunti in 2006. He was also involved looting cash from an individual and the Bank of Baroda located in Ormanjhi area of Ranchi.
The police team that carried out the raid was led by DSP Vijay Kumar Singh.
