Initiating the process of interrogating three judges — Pankaj Kumar Srivastava, Nageshwar Prasad, Veena Mishra — of the lower courts and suspended High Court Registrar Mushtaq Ahmed, the Ranchi police on Wednesday issued notices to all of them seeking time for interrogation.
Registrar General of Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday granted permission to Ranchi police after it filed a petition seeking permission to grill the four judicial officers who are being named in Tara Shahdeo case.
“Notices are being issued to all the judges in this regard through Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar following which, action will be taken accordingly,” said DIG Praveen Kumar. Kohli, during interrogation had earlier accepted that he was in contact of these judges along with several other politicians and bureaucrats.
Talking to the media persons on Wednesday, the SSP also said that the four judges named in the case will be called here in Ranchi on Thursday for interrogation. “We got permission from the High Court late in the evening on Tuesday,” he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Ranjeet Singh Kohli and his mother Kaushal Rani were sent back to jail in judicial custody for 14 days on Wednesday by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Neeraj Kumar Srivastava.
“As the period of police custody expired on Wednesday, both were produced before the CJM, who sent them again in judicial custody of 14 days,” said their advocate Avinash Kumar Pandey.
Earlier, when Kohli was asked by the court of having any complaint against the police during the remand, Kohli replied that he was made to sign on some documents. His advocate, however, said that Kohli was referring to the confessional statements signed by him during the remand.
Both Kohli and his mother have been facing serious allegations of torture, forceful conversion, unlawful confinement and concealment of identity leveled by his shooter wife Tara Shahdeo. Kohli was on a police remand of one day till Wednesday.
Kohli and his mother were arrested on August 26 at New Delhi after an FIR was lodged by Shahdeo at Hindpiri Police Station on August 19.
Shahdeo in her complaint had stated that she was tortured for over a month for her denial for embracing Islam. Kohli has been charged under different sections of violence against women and also IPC section 498A (dowry) and 295A which deals with deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of a class by insulting its religious beliefs.
