A police helpline was set up in the SP Office Palamu on Monday. It was inaugurated jointly by the principal district and sessions judge Palamu civil court KK Srivastava, DC Palamu K N Jha and the SP Y S Ramesh.
The help line which will be a 24x7 affair will now be working during office hours only, said Ramesh. He said efforts are on the anvil to make it work for 24x7. Further, a complainant can have his receipt of filing of receipt in Hindi, if he does not want the receipt in English.
Earlier it was stated that a complainant will have to give his ID proof for filing of the complaint but when the SP was asked, in the event of assault, is this possible for a assault victim who is bleeding, to first find out his ID proof then to rush to this help line, the SP said this ID column has been waived and it is no longer mandated now.
Helpline can be approached through SMS, said Ramesh. Where a complainant cannot send an SMS he can speak his complaint on phone but it has its own inherent problem said sources. The SMS is to be sent to number 08002640085.The SP expressed hope that with this police help line the munshi syndrome in thanas would be curbed and contained to a great extent.
The principal district and session judge KK Srivastava and DC K N Jha lauded the efforts of the Palamu police on this occasion. Police control room has also been activated on Monday said Ramsh. The idea behind this help line is to bridge the gap between the police and the public here where a complainant just gropes in dark about the fate of his complainant.
He will now have access to the Investigating Officer by knowing his name and cell phone number too said, the SP.
