Police grope in dark, internal parts sent to forensic lab for further examination

Even after four days of murder of 43-year-old woman, who was found lying murdered under mysterious condition at her residence at Kadma, the police continue to grope in the dark to get a clue to crack the mystery.

Though forensic science experts came to the city to gather samples and despite interrogation of over a dozen suspects, including the murder victim Khemlata Devi’s husband Kartik Ram, the police are yet to detect the case.

The post-mortem report has reached to the police on Saturday. Despite the rape angle in the post-mortem has not been confirmed, the police have reserved some internal parts of the murder victim for further examination through the forensic test.

Meanwhile, the police have on Saturday sent 18 items to a Ranchi-based forensic lab for analysis pertaining to the Khemlata murder case. The items which have been forwarded for a forensic analysis include the nails of the murder victim, blood sample, vagina swap and a blood-stained cloth.

Significantly, Kartik Ram’s one of the shirts which suspected to have contained blood has also been sent to Ranchi for a forensic analysis.

Officer-in-charge, Kadma thana, Animesh Gupta said they found the murder victim’s blood-stained shirt from an adjoining room where the body was found lying.

“It is really tough case. The body was lying in the drawing room, but the shirt was found hung in a hook along with other cloths in the adjoining room. We, therefore, decided to get a forensic test of the shirt as the bereaved Kartik Ram had no answer to offer,” said Gupta.

The officer-in-charge stated that they sent the items to the Ranchi-based forensic lab through a special messenger after getting a permission from the court.

“We are waiting for the forensic report, we will be able to conclusively say whether the woman had been sexually abused before her murder and whether her husband had any role in it,” said Gupta.

Gupta said they were also trying to find out the call details report of Khemlata’s cell-phone for getting a clue, besides grilling some of the relatives and neighbours as they suspect the murder was committed by someone very close to the murder victim.

The body of Khemlata was found lying at her residence on Tansa Road in Kadma late in the night of June 28.

Sources informed that the husband and his kin were not pleased at Khemlata as she had not given birth any child despite 20 years of their marriage. Moreover, there was suspicion in the mind of Kartik Ram (55) who wanted to get CCTV cameras installed at the two-room quarters much to the opposition of his wife.

Interestingly, Kartik on being grilled by police said that he wanted to get the CCTV camera installed as he was fond of the surveillance camera.  Initially, he had revealed that he wanted to get the surveillance gadgets installed for security reason, but his wife was against it.
