In the wake of rising cases of rash driving by students and increasing road accidents, Ranchi Police on Monday conducted a checking drive to penalise the violators and issue warnings to the school students not to violate traffic norms in future. Police cautioned parents of few students to make their ward responsible towards traffic ethics to avoid stern punishment in future.
“We conducted drive mainly against students who use drive vehicle without valid licence and helmet. We issued challans and left them with warnings to not repeat the mistake in future. We have talked to school administration and if they (students) don’t listen then school will take actions against them. Right now schools will send a letter to the parents,” said DSP Hatia, Nisha Murmu. The drive was conducted by the Hatia DSP and other police officials.
As many as 23 vehicles were caught during the drive for violating traffic norms and on the spot challans were issued to the offenders. Owners of about 18 vehicles submitted challan at schools to get back their vehicle seized during the drive. Police was equally tough against the parents as they were against the offenders. The Hatia DSP talked to the parents and guardians of the school children caught for violating traffic rules and warned them to control behaviour of their wards to avoid dangers related to accidents.
“This is a very good initiative conducted by police. We face a lot of trouble due to erring children who most of the time remain adamant and refuse to listen to us. They always run away from busy traffic signals and now with school’s help we hope that students will develop traffic sense,” said traffic constable, Dilip Kumar Ranjan. The drive will focus on one area on a day will cover almost all major areas where schools are situated.
