A 30-year-old police constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his official barrack at police line in Dumka, said Superintendent of police YS Ramesh. The deceased identified as Arun Kumar was posted in the police line unit of the Dumka district, the police said on Wednesday.
The incident came to light on Wednesday afternoon when another constable reached barrack and saw him hanging from the fan, the SDPO of Dumka town Pujaya Prakash, said.
Arun Kumar hailing from Ghatshila area in Jamshedpur was alone in the police barrack when he took the extreme step, the police said, adding no suicide note was recovered from there. Police suspect that family problem could have driven him to take the extreme step,but the main cause behind the step has not yet been acertained and investigation is going on, police added. The body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem and the matter was under investigation, the S.P. said.
