The district police are making every effort to make once-dreaded Naxal Kapra Mardi rescue and help her get benefits under Naxal Surrender Policy. In this regard, a team of senior officials from district police met 32-year-old woman Naxal Kapra Mardi at Ghatshila Sub-jail in Dhalbhumgarh where she is lodged since 2007.

According to information, the team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Naxal operation) Shailendra Kumar Burnwal met Kapra after studying the court records for getting the woman Naxal released by giving her the benefits under the Naxal surrender policy. The police are keen to help her join mainstream.

It may be mentioned that Kapra, a resident of Dumaria block, was accused in as many as 10 cases of Naxal violence like murders, triggering landmines and launching attack against police. After remaining active for more than seven years in Naxal activities in Ghurabandha, Dumaria, Ghatshila, and Musabani, Kapra had surrendered before the police at Dumaria police station in 2007.

ASP (Naxal operation), Burnwal, who led a team of police official to the Ghatshila Sub-jail confirmed that the police were serious on providing the necessary facility to surrendered Naxal Kapra Mardi.

“Kapra has already been acquitted in eight out of 10 cases, all related to Naxal violence. We are recommending for her release in the remaining two cases also. We want to give her a chance to join the mainstream and lead a happy life,” said Burnwal.

The ASP (Naxal operation) said that during the meeting with the under-trial prisoner Kapra Mardi, they came to know through the jailer Ranjit Singh that Kapra has brought changes in her attitude and behaviour in these eight years and has become an ideal for the rest of the women under-trial prisoners lodged in the Ghatshila sub-jail.

Ghatshila sub-jail’s jailer Ranjit Singh said the district administration has taken initiative to release Kapra Mardi from the jail by giving her the benefit of Naxal surrender policy.

On the other hand, in the last few days, anti insurgency operation in the Ghatshila sub division has been intensified following intelligence reports that suggest ultras are camping in the areas of Dhalbhumgarh in the wake of intensive policing. “It is possible that they (rebels) might attempt to sneak into our district through porous border but anti insurgency operation has been increased in the affected areas,” said an official. The police have beefed up security in the naxal-infested areas of Ghatshila sub division consisting of areas like Dumaria, Musaboni, Chakulia, Bahragora and Ghatshila.
