Palamu police busted a gang of kidnappers and remanded them to judicial custody on Sunday.

SP Indrajeet Mahatha said the gang has kidnappers such as Jitender, Kundan, Sandeep Santu and Surender. The kidnapper lakhan is at large.

Mahatha said police recovered one katta, three country-made guns, 6 cartridges and six cell phones.

This gang was operative since 2017 and its latest commission of crime of kidnapping was on April 16 this year when the gang kidnapped Krishna Prajapati and kept him under their captivity for five days after he was rescued on April 21, added SP.

Surjit Kumar DSP said this gang had a bizarre operational tactic where the gang used to dodge its victim by taking him into confidence asking questions or seeking help like ‘tell us the route you know’ and the unsuspecting fellow fails to read their evil motive and soon used to find himself under their captivity. The kidnappers then used to ask for Rs 10 lakh as ransom.

SP Mahatha explained that these people used to capture innocents. A school teacher, a para teacher, a villager all were kidnapped either by fooling them to tell the route or to give them water at their respective houses.

Apart from cracking of the gang, the police also caught a commander of JJMP Kaushal Mahto carrying reward of five lakh on his head.

He was also remanded in judicial custody. The jailed commander was operating in three police stations Daltonganj Bishrampur and Chhaterpur and has nine cases against him.
