In a major breakthrough, Bokaro police busted a criminal gang engaged in making an illegal withdrawal from a bank’s ATM and arrested one gang member while another member managed to escape from the police net.
The accused was nabbed due to the alertness of the ATM guard and the quick response of the police.
Police arrested Suryadev Rana, a resident of Tetulmari at Dhanbad, while he was making an illegal withdrawal from PNB bank’s ATM under the Chas police station on Saturday, informed Ram Pravesh OC of Chas police station.
His other accomplice escaped from the spot. He has been identified as Vicky Modak, resident of Chandorbandh, Tetulmari, near the Sun temple at Dhanbad, said OC.
“We are conducting raids at different locations to arrest Vicky,” he said.
Disclosing the modus operandi, OC said the gang members used to block the ATM by inserting a thin iron strip in the machine to conduct the crime.
As the criminals used to block the cash withdrawal door, the customers could not be able to withdraw money even after completing the transaction. As soon as the customer left, the members of the gang used to remove the cash by expelling the iron strip and escaped from the spot, he said.
