Bokaro Thermal Police on Tuesday averted a major clash between two groups of people over an alleged attack on local Maulana at a graveyard in Bokaro.

Families, belonging to two different communities, have been residing in Rajabazar and Govindpur areas respectively in Bokaro thermal for several decades.

According to Officer-in Charge of Bokaro Thermal Police Station, Umesh Kumar Thakur, on Tuesday morning the local Maulana identified as 60-year-old Gysuuddin Ansari had gone to the graveyard to read ‘Fatiah' early morning. One 20-year-old local youth identified as Gitesh jee Pandey reached the graveyard and allegedly stopped Ansari from reading the ‘Fatehi’. A group of local men from a particular community resisted Pandey’s behavior, which resulted in a heated argument.

Tension simmered in the area as people from both the communities reached the police station and raised their concerns. The members of both the groups staged a protest on the road later in the day.

However, Officer In-Charge Umesh Kumar Thakur held separate discussions with the representatives of both the groups. The officials promised to sort out the issue by holding detailed discussion with the representatives of both the groups. Police also arrested Pandey following which a section of the crowd dispersed. The negotiations with the representatives continued till late Tuesday afternoon.

“The Maulana has lodged an FIR (First Information Report) with the Bokaro Thermal Police Station and are investigating the case,” said Thakur, adding that security has been beefed up in the area to avert any further clashes.
