Poddar questions Smart Road proposal

Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar has questioned the proposal of converting the busy Harmu Road into a Smart Road by the State government. In a letter to the Chief Minister Raghubar Das he has stated that there was no need of a smart road in Ranchi City. Moreover, he has also said that that no information regarding the smart road and its details has been brought in the public domain.

Referring to the information available on the Internet, Poddar stated that concept of Smart

Roads is trending only in developed countries where it can chat with moving vehicles and instruct them for smooth traffic.

Smart roads can track moving vehicles on the road and use the information for smart power management. It will avoid any collateral damage by sharing information about weather, landslides and accidents with the vehicle.

He cites the examples of Jammu Srinagar Highway where usefulness of smart polls are being tested.

Also, he tells that only when self-driven cars will occupy the market there will be use of smart roads and there isn’t a smart road across the country.

The MP suggested to use the hefty amount to be used in this project on another development programmes.
