In a major success for police, PlFI zonal commander Kargil Yadav on Friday surrendered before senior police and CRPF officials at a function held at Ranchi DIG office. The government had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh on him.

After his surrender Yadav told media persons that lWE organisations were engaged in exploiting the cadres and the people.

Notably, Yadav joined the CPI (Maoists) in 1999 when he was just 15 years old. He was arrested in 2013 and served a jail term. After coming out he formed lorik Sena to fight the Tritya Prastuti Committee (TPC). He, however, joined the PlFI after feeling insecure due to the rising influence of TPC. He was arrested by Ranchi police in 2008 and served three years in jail. After his release Yadav joined the PlFI again. He was involved in the Police-PlFI encounter in 2017 in Girda in which three extremists were killed.

Speaking on the occasion Ranchi DIG Amol V Homkar said that Yadav was accused in 14 extremist-related incidents in Ranchi, Khunti lohardaga, latehar, Palamu and Simdega districts. A total of eight cases were registered against him in Ranchi district.

“It is an important achievement for Jharkhand police. 24 extremists have surrendered in Ranchi zone since January 2017. We hope that more left Wing Extremist cadres would join the social mainstream,” Homkar said.

He said the Jharkhand police and the para-military forces are also conducting operations against the lWE organisations leading to elimination of 11 extremists since January 2017.

Homkar said lWE are under pressure police due to multi- faceted action of the administration including anti- extremist operations, community policing in rural areas, improving intelligence network and linking the masses to the administration.

He added that the police pressure combined with the attractive surrender policy is leading many extremists to surrender. He said that Yadav told him that there was uneasiness among the extremists in the recent months and many want to join the social mainstream.

Talking to media persons Yadav said has decided to leave violence and lead a good life. He said that women are exploited within the lWE organisations. He also appealed to other extremists to surrender before police and lead a normal life.
