Various measures to beautify Ranchi were suggested in the inter-departmental meeting on Tuesday convened under the tutelage of Urban Development Minister CP Singh. The measures recommended included improving city’s traffic, waste management and ideal law & order in the capital to transform the capital into a model city.
Traffic rules are likely to be applied without any exception as emphasis was given on applying penal actions related to breaking traffic rules to all and sundry alike. Policemen, especially Tiger Mobile that roam around the city without helmet and virtually mock law abiding motorcycle riders may find difficult to continue their illegal practice due to a tough stand taken for non-compliance with traffic rules.
The Urban Development Minister asked officials to ensure strict adherence to traffic rules, punish distinguished personalities and Government officials just the way a common man is penalised for violating traffic rules.
Singh said wearing helmet will be mandatory for all including police constables and other police officials and instructed regional transport officials to ensure hassle free permit issuing process.
Singh, an MlA from Ranchi Assembly constituency, discussed water supply issues that the city usually faces during summer and instructed representatives of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department to plug leakages in the water pipeline system besides ensuring timely and regular supply of water.
Chief Secretary (CS) Rajiv Gauba emphasised on transforming Ranchi into a model city and better traffic system for the capital. The CS stressed on controlling crime in the capital and putting up infrastructure to control crime.
Gauba said Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) should put CCTV cameras at selected spots and monitor activities captured on camera from control room as it will help in better traffic management also. Proper solid waste disposal system must be made for the city, said the CS.
The Urban Development department suggested changes in the lighting arrangement and replacing high mast lights with energy efficient lED-lights. The department also proposed widening important streets. The urban civic body proposed beautification of water bodies and presented long-term as well as short-term plan to address traffic problems.
