A review petition was filed at Supreme Court against the judgment of Apex Court dismissing two PILs related to alleged money laundering through shell companies in which CM Hemant Soren has been charged of availing the stone mining lease in his name. The review petition was filed by one Shiv Shankar Sharma on Monday.
In November this year, the Supreme Court dismissed the Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed against Soren in Jharkhand High Court (HC) saying that they were not maintainable.
The apex court came down heavily on the Jharkhand HC for entertaining the PILs and taking cognizance based on general submissions, calling it “an abuse of the process of the Court”.
The PILs were against the Chief Minister, his family members and associates. Both the PIL witnessed a prolonged legal battle and hearing by a division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of Jharkhand. The High court found both the PILs maintainable and allowed further hearing as the petitioner had demanded a CBI inquiry of the matter.
Two petitions filed against Soren were challenged. Out of these, one claimed Soren granted himself a mining lease while holding the mining portfolio, and sought action for the alleged misuse of public office. The other petition alleged money laundering by CM Soren and his family through shell companies and asked for an investigation by central agencies.
The High Court had ordered that the petitions were maintainable. A division bench including Chief Justice Ravi Ranjan passed a judgement on June 3 and proceeded with the matter on merits. However, the SC reserved its order on appeal on August 17 and directed that the Jharkhand HC not proceed on merits.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned the then DSP of Barharwa Pramod Kumar Mishra for questioning on December 12 about how he supervised the Barharwa toll plaza tender case and gave a clean chit to Congress minister Alamgir Alam as well as Pankaj Mishra.
Pankaj Mishra is the MLA representative of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren and he is currently in jail in the illegal stone mining case. The ED has filed a prosecution complaint against him. Well-placed sources said that in the same case the ED will summon Sahibganj SP Anuranjan Kispotta in the near future.
Notably, the Sahibganj police gave a clean chit to Minister Alamgir Alam and Pankaj Mishra in Barharwa toll plaza case within 24 hours the businessman Shambhu Nandan lodged an FIR against them. DSP Pramod Mishra was supervising the investigation and gave a clean chit to minister and also Pankaj Mishra without any preliminary investigation and digital evidence.
