Former state BJP president and ex-Rajya Sabha MP Abhay Kant Prasad contesting Assembly polls on party’s ticket from Jarmundi is banking on mass base he enjoys in his constituency to register an emphatic victory against his prominent rival Harinaryan Rai of the JMM.
Rai happens to be the former urban development minister, presently on bail in Disproportionate of Assets case involving several hundred crores. Prasad will go to the people with some of the basic issues like poor irrigation, education and health facilities in the area along with the issue of corruption among politicians.
“People have seen everything in the last 10 years as to how corruption went to its peak in the area and are now looking for a person of clean image to represent them. And it is only BJP that can ensure a good candidate to them,” said Prasad.
Despite the fact that he had not contested elections for a long time, Prasad feels that his connectivity with the people of his constituency will prove to be a cutting edge over his opponents.
“I have always remained connected with the people of my constituency and have always struggled for the development of the state,” said Prasad. I have contributed in setting up of several schools and colleges along with hospitals in the area, he added.
“I have travelled 1100 villages of my constituency and spent 120 nights regularly in those villages under a public relation programme organized in the year 1983,” he said.
Referring to the slow pace of development of Dumka region, Prasad said that there is a consensus among the people of this state that they are going to form a majority government in the state, which will pave way for the development of the region.
“Several welfare programmes have already been introduced in the Country on the directions of Modi Ji and I am sure that Jarmundi will also be benefitted by those welfare schemes,” the former MP said.
Prasad will go to the people on some of the basic issues like problems of irrigation, education, health as well as the problem of drinking water, which is still lacking in the area.
Calling himself popular among both the youths as well as old age persons, Prasad said that he will go to the polls talking both the generations together during these elections.
“Modi and BJP are definitely big factors during these elections, I too have a mass base as I have proved myself earlier by remaining on different important posts; hence enjoy full support of both youths as well as the old age people,” he said.
The BJP senior further said that there is no dearth of good people in politics and BJP being the first preference of the people of people of this Country. “A BJP Government was formed at the centre, similarly a BJP Government will be formed in Jharkhand; development of the area will automatically take place as both the governments will work together in the same direction,” he added.
Prasad, a veteran BJP leader remained party president in the state during 2001-2004. He has also worked with some of the senior leaders like Home Minister Rajnath Singh and former BJP leader Pramod Mahajan in the capacity of National Vice President of Youth wing of BJP. He also had a chance to become Rajya Sabha member from 2002-2004.
