The temperature of Ranchi city has soared up to 40 degree Celsius and is getting intolerable as it has left everyone dehydrated, fatigued and fall victims of heatstroke. One of the most important methods to deal with this sweltering heat is to stay hydrated. While water is the utmost important drink, various popular summer drinks such as Lassi, fruit juice, coconut water and many others are in demand as the people of the city were spotted enjoying these to quench their thirst.
Mango is the most popular fruit during summers. Various drinks are prepared from this king of fruits and one such drink is Aam Panna. This refreshing summer drink made from the pulp of mango not only keeps you refreshed but also energized through sunny days. Mango juice is prepared from ripe mango and can be easily spotted being sold on various road-side stalls and shops all throughout the city.
Another popular drink enjoed by the people is Lassi. The demand for this creamy drink increases tremendously in the market especially during summer season as it is an amazing summer cooler. Chotu Kumar who runs a Lassi shop said that he initially owned a Jalebi stall but shifted to lassi because of its high demand during summer season. He is able to earn 1500-2000 a day.
Raw coconut water or Dabh Paani is an excellent drink for whenever you feel dehydrated. Around 15 stalls are set up daily starting from SBI office chowk in Kutchery area till Rajbhavan road and has become a hub as these stalls attract large crowds. One of the vendors said that he is been able to sell around 200 glasses. The raw coconut used is imported from Bengal.
Despite of the availability of sugarcane juice throughout the year, it is the go-to drink for the people in the summer. It is not only a natural remedy to a lot of problems but also builds body fluids, said Mukesh Kumar who owns a small sugarcane corner and sells around 50 glasses every day. To meet the demand of the people, fresh sugarcane is imported from Lohardaga on a daily basis.
Sattu (Barley)Sharbat, an absolute lip-smacking drink popular in Bihar has made its way in to the markets of Ranchi. Available in Kutchery Road area, this desi summer drink is preferred by the people as it is very effective in treating sunstroke.
