Peace committee is to be revamped in Palamu after alleged redundancy. Sources said that same faces have been making it to the peace committee, and their failure in maintaining harmony has triggered the need for new faces, especially from the organisations that are active across the country.
Sources said that Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrand Dal, Sri Ram Sena, Jamate E Islami Hind, Jain Samaj, Christian organization, Sikh Sangat etc are not finding correct representation in the committee.
Sources said three outfits namely Mahavir Nav Yuvak Dal (Ramnavmi group), Muharram Inteezamia Committee and Sri Kendrya Maha Durga Puja Samiti rule the roost in the peace committee meetings leaving a bigger section of both the communities out of its ambit.
Sources said the police stations that hold such meetings also take it very casually and go about it quite notionally.
Sources said it has become ‘just a narrative’ in any peace committee meeting where speakers irrespective of the communities that they come play rhetoric on communal harmony.
On the other hand, police record here in Palamu district speak about violent communal riots here like Satbarwa riot, Kazee Pakree riot, Bishrampur riot, Kudaaga riot, Chando riot, etc wherein lives and properties were lost. A good number of hot spots where communal disturbances are common have also been identified.
SP Palamu Sanjeev Kumar heard about the face of the peace committee with intense interest and made inquiries about the population density of various religious groups here.
Sanjeev Kumar’s query about Christian presence here in Palamu is born as he himself said out of his previous posting in Simdega in the same capacity of SP that the number of churches there is the indicator of the number of people of this faith there.
