Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said that the development of the State is possible only by maintaining ecological balance of the area as development at the cost of environment is irrational. Das, while addressing the seventh meeting of State Bio-diversity Board at his official residence in Ranchi he also added that conservation of every living being is important as each one of them has an important role to play in the ecology.
Referring to the incidents of animals venturing into the villages creating losses to the lives and properties, Das said that if the animals are provided natural environment in the jungles such incidents could be well avoided. “Jharkhand being a forest covered state, it is important to save animal lives for the conservation of the living being,” the CM said.
Das, during the meeting also directed to form a committee under the State Bio-diversity Board suggesting recommendations within three months regarding the solution for the conservation of respective areas of animals as well as common population from each other’s invention.
The CM also directed the concerned officials to make a comparative ratio of the forest land available for the forest animals during the formation of the state and the present scenario as well as the actual count of the forest animals in the state so that a comparative study could be done and planning could be done accordingly.
During the board meeting, several proposals for lying underground electric cables and widening and repair of roads running across the forest land were given approval by the CM. “It is important to expedite the developmental works in the state, but at the same time it is also important to keep in mind that the flora and fauna do not get damaged at any cost,” Das said. Trees must also get planted again which are removed during lying underground cable and widening of roads through the forest areas.
The CM stressed on finding out possibilities of underground tunnels and other alternatives under the forest cover considering the routes taken by the forest animals.
