Water reservoirs languishing over lack of maintenance will now get a lease of life, said sources. There are many water reservoirs where if a few lakhs of rupees is spent will come back into its original form and start the prime task of irrigation. However for want of maintenance the water reservoirs are either lying idle or are sinking with silt.
The DC Palamu Manoj Kumar said with 30 to 40 lakhs of maintenance expenses, the historic Bootan Dooba water reservoir in Palamu’s Chainpur will again be fit to irrigate 300 hectares of land there. This water reservoir has three very common ailments. Siltation and breakages at canals afflict the water reservoir. The well where comes the water of this reservoir is highly silted. If it is de silted then flow for irrigation can be maintained said the DC Palamu.
Similarly its right canal and left canal require to be touched up. Again the aqua deck has gone disintegrating. Water reservoirs are mostly from where the hill/hillock is not far away and rains coming down from hill/hillock are always turbulent and leave deep impact of force on any water reservoir. One another water body is at Jinjoi in Palamu’s Paton block. Here too some expenses can render it public friendly said the DC. At Hussainabad a couple of water bodies are in the similar state of disrepair and cry for immediate toning up. The DC conceded that assets like water reservoirs are raised but after aconsiderable period oftime it is left to its own sad fate.
Again waterbodies have their life span. From the catchment area water does not come only into these waterbodies but come also the sand, soil and slush and these constitute silt. And more silt lessens the irrigational efficiency of a water reservoir.
