Palamu police are to hire motorcycles for poll patrol in its five Assembly constituencies. There are 1,795 polling booths in the five Assembly constituencies in Palamu. Voting is here on November 30.
Sources said there are more than 45 police stations, outposts, pickets in the district where there is a shortage of motorcycles for patrol.
Sources said there are four wheelers but four wheelers cannot negotiate by lanes and narrow roads as motorcycles can do and for intensive patrol in every nook and corner of the district bikes are most preferred. SP Palamu Ajay Linda said, “I have given orders to police stations, police outposts and pickets to hire motorcycles for poll patrol.”
Linda said each police set up has been asked to hire a maximum of 10 motorcycles. Lesliganj police station has gone first for this hiring of motorcycles.
Town police station Medininagar has its own fleet of about 15 motorcycles which cops ride and are called Panthers, said officer in charge of Town police station Anand K Mishra.
DSP headquarter Sandip Kumar Gupta said, “We are conducting road checking and patrolling all sensitive areas with great dedication.”
Gupta said a cop on bike sends an immediate signal of police watching and taking note of things around. Cops on bikes will add more teeth to our patrol reminded Gupta.
DSP further said during this Ayodhya verdict day here police took out flag march wherein police took the motorcycles of the chowkidars or their families and got it run with fuel cost born by the respective police stations.
Cabinet (election) department Jharkhand government has fixed rate for hiring and detention of all modes of vehicles for the purposes of the conduct of poll. According to a notification of Transport department of Jharkhand government Memo number 101 dated January 23 2019 it is 220 rupees only for hiring and detaining a motorcycle per day.
There is a facility of hiring and detaining cycles too @ of 40 rupees a day but it is not hired by the cops. Sources said police vigil is quite up in Palamu. Security forces have started coming over here. For their lodging NPU’s colleges 3 alone in Daltonganj are to be requisitioned. Town Hall here has already occupancy of security forces now.
