Palamu police start afresh in ‘dowry death’ case

Published on:

A married woman who saved a male name on her cell phone as one of a female one finally had to bid good bye to this world.

The woman died or made to die. Police are investigating. Her uncle gave in writing to police that she was killed by hanging for dowry. Police did not delay in this matter and registered the case under section 304 (b) and arrested one. All in one day August 13. The woman had died on August 12.

SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha gave a blow by blow account of this case today Sunday. SP said, “The married woman was Maya Devi under Lesliganj police station. She had saved a number as that of Rekha in her cell phone.”

SP added further, “The number that was saved as Rekha by Maya Devi was in fact of a male identified as Ghanshyam Rajak a CCL worker living in Bokaro’s Gomia. This is a clear proof that Maya Devi the deceased had concealed this identity of the male Rajak with a false name Rekha thus she not only changed the name from Ghanshyam to Rekha but the gender too.”

SP said, “It should not make anyone to stress or strain oneself to understand this ploy or game.”

He said on August 12 there came 7 missed calls on this saved number Rekha in the cell phone of Maya Devi.

Hours later the same day August 12 she died. Police are investigating this case to find out the reasons behind her death.

Elaborating further SP told, “Our DSP Premnath used his wit and gave call on this number from where had come 7 missed calls on saved number Rekha in the cell phone of Maya Devi on August 12.”

DSP had expected female voice but came male one and true caller identified him as Ghanshyam Rajak forcing DSP Premnath to quiz him the hard way to which this Rajak first feigned ignorance about any Maya Devi but when reminded that there were 7 calls from his phone he buckled to admit that he knew Maya Devi from the days she lived in Hussainabad in Palamu.

DSP further took the wind out of Rajak’s sail when he told him point blank “ Maya  Devi is dead. Will you not come to Lesliganj to pay your condolences as you were her acquaintance. Rajak switched off his phone.”  A police team has gone to Gomia to pick him up said SP.

On how she died SP quoting doctor said there was the strangulation but it was not of hands, fingers but of rope that she might have around her neck on her own or her husband might have done as this is the matter of investigation but her husband Om Prakash Paswan rushed her to Lesliganj community health centre on August 12 afternoon and when she was referred to RIMS Ranchi Paswan started for Ranchi journey but on way near Satbarwa she died said SP Mahatha.

SP clarified, “She was not found dead by hanging. She was released from the dupatta  or other similar cloth that hung her, rushed to Lesliganj community health centre and from there to RIMs Ranchi when she died. All this by her husband Om Prakash Paswan.”

As case under dowry death was registered Maya’s husband Om Prakash Paswan is under judicial remand  while four of his kin and this Rajak are now to be thoroughly interrogated for any role of them or any one of them behind this death of Maya.

Palamu police have now new questions following this Rajak angle. Has shame and guilt forced Maya to end her life? Has her husband taken her life if he got to know that Rekha is a male and his wife is duping him? Love deceit distrust & death all seem to have some role in this case said sources.

SP said there will be transparent investigation in this case where every side will have the opportunity to explain his stand.
