Palamu police are keeping an eye on naxals on bail here in this district. Police are also tracking them if naxals on bail were inter-district and interstate operatives. Sources said their number is around 120 to 125 in Palamu. These naxals are out of jail appearing in courts as and when needed.
Sources said these naxals on bail are the fence sitters. They are the most vulnerable lot. These naxals on bail may jump either side - ‘jungle’ their erstwhile hide out or ‘jameen’ read civil society. Jumping into the jungle side is far easier than to hold ground in civil society and here Palamu police are pulling out all full stops to make and feel naxals on bail to be ‘at home’ only and lead a normal life despite challenges galore.
SP, Palamu, Indrajeet Mahatha looks too concerned about the naxals on bail here saying, “There is a good number of them, say 120 or 125 on bail and this lot of naxals on bail is to be taken care of most. Their tracking is essential. Their mind and mood are to be gauged quite periodically with love care and sympathy.”
“Palamu police have established communication with them and their families. There takes place dialogue. Police try to present before them that it is sensitive and attentive towards them,” said Mahatha.
More than four dozen police officials are on track of the naxals on bail here and watch their every movement as far as possible to assess and review if naxals on bail are having any ‘second thought’ said sources.
They said from officers in charge to senior police officers all are on this job. These police trackers ‘listen, care and watch naxals on bail’.
The SP said, “Tracking of them is to be done without being any obstructive in their way of living post bail life. Tracking is to be inclusive that is to make the naxals on bail feel that police do not look down upon them with any contempt or revenge. They should not also be in the mould of regret and penance all the time but to get ready to lead a new lease of life.”
‘During our operations against naxals we have found documents, diaries and notes of the Maoists, especially where we have learnt that Maoists still have space and heart for those cadres , area commanders, sub zonal commanders and zonal commanders who were caught and jailed and are on bail to make a return to the fold again,” he added.
Sources said naxal outfits are grappling with depleting cadres be it CPI Maoist or TPC or JJMP or PLFI. Vipul Shukla DIG, Palamu said, “Now the self styled sub zonal or zonal commanders are gobbling together to strike since they have with them now a very thin strike force of the cadres.”
“This is too dangerous if there occurs slippage of naxals on bail into the naxal fold again as then the whole purpose of their being caught and remanded in judicial custody gets defeated. This re run in jingles and caves of naxals on bail is to be aborted by all means,” added the SP.
“To abort their re- run in caves, hills and jungles it is to be ensured that factors that led to these people join extremism decade or decades ago are not the same now. It is to be ensured the ease of compelling factor behind joining of extremism” reiterated the SP.
