Palamu police catch a bail jumper, mob gets him freed from police station

People from a victory procession on Monday got freed a man from Pandu police station in Palamu. Sources said a victory procession was marching the street of Pandu panchayat this Monday to celebrate Priyanka Kumari’s becoming the mukhiya of Pandu panchayat.

In the procession was her husband Sintu Singh. Sources said some one in the procession informed the Pandu police about Sintu Singh in this procession.

Pandu police immediately swung into action and took Sintu Singh in its captivity and brought him down to Pandu police station.

However the entire procession numbering more than a 1,000 people including women reached Pandu police station, mobbed the office and pressured the police to free Sintu Singh.

Sintu Singh later re joined the procession of his wife Priyanka Kumari.

Deputy Superintendent of police Hira lal Ravi has confirmed this episode saying ‘ Pandu police did take in its possession Sintu Singh as this man had jumped the bail and brought him down to the police station where an unruly mob ( read processionists) ghaeraoed Pandu police station and created such a scene forcing police to let Sintu Singh go from thana’.

DSP Ravi said ‘Pandu police are all set to draw a named FIR in this connexion as none would be allowed to take law in such a manner where a person who has jumped the bail is taken in police captivity and a mob of people then mount pressure on police to get the man freed and walk down from there’ with the person in question.

Sources said Pandu police acted with restraint as neither the time nor the situation was any good to crack against a man accused of jumping bail as then the entire wrath of public in victory procession would have been far worse than this where the processionists just took the man Sintu Singh back home for today atleast.

DSP Ravi further added ‘ The newly elected mukhiya Priyanka Kumari too would figure by name in this FIR to be drawn tonight. Pandu police have names of many in the procession who acted most erratically in the thana’.

Could this episode mean any loss of face of police here Ravi said’ There is nothing like this. Police will come very heavily upon these enthusiasts for their wrong doing’.

DIG police Palamu Saket K Singh said the entire episode would be looked into.
