Palamu police’s soothing words calmed down a group of around 60 to 70 migrants here, who threw their food packets, crushed their water bottles and started walking down with bag for home giving institutional quarantine a toss here on Wednesday evening said sources.
Sources said more than 1100 migrants had come on Wednesday here from Jalandhar. The migrants found the food too bad, too stale and too harmful. In anger they crushed their water bottles.
SDPO, Sadar Sandip Kumar Gupta said, “I rushed on the street where these people were walking down too briskly. I made them sit on the premise of a roadside petrol pump. There I got them served water, biscuits, mixture etc.”
Gupta said it was most delicate then to ask them any question as they would have burst upon and so we made them eat whatever we could give them in the lock down.
The SDPO said, “I was in close touch with our SP. His was constantly asking me to give them food but we had none then.”
The migrants told us they were hungry for over the last three days and in the Jalandhar train too there was not much of food for them.
DDC Palamu Bindu Madhav Prasad Singh on being asked about such poor food given to migrants just washed off his hands saying, “I am not handling this work.”
Stung by Wednesday’s outburst of migrants food arrangement was good today with plenty of drinking water and shed from the sun for migrants who came today from Ludhiyana.
The migrants then returned to their institutional quarantine centre and gave samples for coronavirus test.
