Swacchta Hi Sewa’ programme to be observed from September 15 to October 2 has a broad spectrum here in Palamu. DC Palamu Dr Shantanu Kumar Agrahari said in his maiden press conference that all stops would be pulled out to make this town beautiful and garbage free.

As regards urban slums he said Medininagar Nagar Nigam (MNN) officials have identified 18 urban slum pockets here where are 50 and plus households.

As part of the cleanliness drive here health camps will be held in these urban slums he said.

On garbage vulnerable points that are 25 in numbers in MNN DC said these will now be converted into small green zone or green belt with an altogether a new look of freshness which will present a contrast to what it was in the past.

What is the guarantee that at such garbage vulnerable points people will not dump their garbage again a calm DC said,

“It will be prevented by a firm hand.  Such garbage vulnerable points will be first cleared of garbage and then its redoing will be carried out.”

When his attention was drawn towards a common malaise that people building houses, shouchalays etc dump their material right from sand to brick on roads or where a house is under dismantling then in that event all debris of it on roads DC said such offenders will be made to face Construction and Demolition Waste Rule which will tax them.

On number of sweepers not in ratio of wards which are 35 in MNN and population worth 1.50 lakh DC said there is a provision of one sweeper for 200 to 250 household and by this account there are 145 sweepers here in MNN which is no mean a work strength.

However DC agreed that absenteeism plagues this work force most as 100 remain off duty every day on an average. It is 40 to 45 only that report to duty every day said executive officer of MNN Ajay Kumar Sao sitting in this PC of DC.

He said to bring these absentees back to work/ duty he plans to launch prize/ incentive to best of sweepers as then it will not only increase their sense of belongningness to work/duty but will open a new vistas for competition among them.

Agrahari recalling his days in office in Ranchi said, “There was a time when Ranchi was placed at 121 number in the country. It now stands at 21st position.  Here floating population is around 1.50 lakh which is the static population of this MNN. We will sure change the look and face of this MNN.”

DC said MNN here should take a leaf from Ambikapur in Chhatisgarh where door to door collection of garbage is a big success. It will be launched here too he reiterated.
