Palamu administration is gearing up for a two day Rajkiya Adivasi Vikas Maha Kumbh Mela at Dubiya Kharn about 10 kms away from Daltonganj town.
The two day Rajkiya Adivasi Vikas Maha Kumbh Mela is slated for February 11 and 12.
An expected crowd of 15,000 to 17,000 is expected on the inaugural day February 11 which gets half the very next day as past shows have proved.
Starting since mid nineties this Mela has been a favourite of the politicians ruling and the opposition alike all to grab tribal votes and tribal sentiments.
The two day event has its own charm and challenge. First is the gambling. The gamblers come here from Ranchi and Gumla.
Second illicit wine will flow from this end to the other end. Where there is wine, there is pork. Pork sells more than chicken on these two days.
A couple of electricity poles there need to be taken care of to avoid any electrocution.
Young girls are enticed to dance with boys on vulgar and obscene tunes. It's more than a simple dance competition. It's an invitation to furtherance of the relation.
Tribal youths create parking space for money. Here tussle breaks out between the tribal and the non tribal over the business of the parking.
The charm of the Mela is that it presents a pageant of tribal cuisine more than anything else. It's all eat and merry making.
Additional SP Ops Rakesh Singh who was in the meeting convened by the DC Shashi Ranjan in regard to the conduct of this Mela today told this correspondent "Police will ensure smooth and hassle free traffic on the NH just close to the Mela site on the days the Mela fervour will be here."
