DC HazaribaghMukesh Kumar has made an innovative call to all the rural artists and house owners of the district with a theme “Paint My City”. Taking the initiative he had handed over the boundary wall of DC residence to the local artists to make paintings of local Kohbar and Sohrai art.
The aim behind this call is to give Hazaribagha different identity in entire State, country and abroad too.As Jaipur is known in entire world as pink city, Hazaribagh may be called a city of speaking walls.
The boundary walls of DC residence, Indira Gandhi residential girl’s school, and CRPFand JAP camp offices have already started attracting and talking with those who are passing through that way.DC Mukesh Kumar has said that soon the boundary walls of every Government organisation of the district will become attractive similarly.
Sohrai and Kohbar painting is a traditional rural art of Chotanagpur. Villagers use to make paintings on the outer side of their house walls before the festival of Deepawali, which is known as Sohrai art. Kohbar art is also an old and traditional art of this region in which the villagers, especially women of the family use to make paintings on the inner walls of the house at the time of any marriage ceremony in the family.
The credit goes to noted local environmentalist Bullu Imam who brought this local art in lime light and gave the local artists National and International fame. He is the man who not only worked with the local artists on this traditional art but also made its literature to give it wide spread appreciation.
DC Mukesh Kumar has appealed to the denizens of this district to come forward to give their city a look having local traditional rural touch. He has planned to send letters to every house owners to get their boundary walls painted with Kohbar and Sohraiart which will always remind them how to live with the nature.
