Pahari Mandir out-of-shape ahead of 'Shravani Utsav'

Getting decorated for the pious ‘Shravani Utsav’ though, the arrangements at Pahari Mandir ignore some vital issues. When the month long mela starts on Monday, arrangements at the age old temple located on hilltop is in shambles.

From fencing the susceptible areas to barricading the backyard where the flagpole has been decked up in 2016, major civil work at this well-known tourist spot is either left incomplete or has yet not been undertaken.

Stairway repair work, minor patch task and even muddled corners piled up with construction materials are yet to be removed by the management of Pahari Mandir Development Committee.

Notably, according to the official record, more than 2.5 lakh devotees from across the State every year visit this auspicious religious site. Putting several people lives at stake neither the district administrative officials nor the members of Pahari Mandir Development Committee has a valid answer to cite. According to the environmentalists, the chances of landslide have augmented after the construction of one of the highest flagpole here.

However, clarifying the stance, Ranchi SDO Satyajeet Kumar said, “looking at the risk, the earth filling task has been completed a while ago. After the land filling work and plantation drive, the chances of soil erosion has been curtailed. Moreover, as of now, the chances of landslide here are very less yet demarcating some vulnerable points, barricading has been done so that crowd is not diverted in the wrong direction and to the prone locations. Staircase repair work has also been done.”

Even more, besides ensuring the basic civic facilities that are given to the citizen every year, management and district authority personnel are heedlessly ignoring some major project involving hefty sum. The vermi compost venture that can play a significant role in managing the solid waste generated in heavy quantity every year during the peak season is left in total mess.

Ironically, the vermi compost venture started in 2013 with much hue and cry to produce green manure even after so many years crave for maintenance. Covered with huge trees, bushes, shrubs, the unconstructed roads leading towards the vermi compost pits are filled with non-biodegradable stuffs without having any trace of earthworms into it.

Furthermore, the rotten bio-degradable materials are piled up outside the compost beds and there is virtually no sign of fresh natural materials being dumped inside the beds and treated scientifically to convert it into green fertilizer.

Admitting the laid-backness in running the vermi compost venture, the member of Pahari Mandir Development Committee, Hari Jalan, playing the same old broken record said that due to trained labourers crisis, the project has been left in heck of a mess. However, he assured that even though all the green stuffs that are offered to the deity this season will be put in the organized way inside the vermi compost pits only.

“Now after the Shravani Utsav, the committee will rethink over this vermi compost project. We have received instructions from the administrative Heads to restart the project at the earliest,” added Jalan.

Notably, around ten tones of vermi compost were expected to be produced out of the biodegradable waste generated at the temple. The plan of making vermi compost out of the temple biodegradable wastes was mooted to cater to the requirement of farmers.
