Overflowing drains, stench add to woes

What can be called as a grave health hazard for the residents of the state capital, uncleared garbage scattered on roads, overflowing drains or unbearable stench in the air. Due of stagnation of garbage in large quantities in the drainage, the flow of sewerage has become difficult as a result of which water has started flowing on the roads of Kutchery area.

Waste water from household of Kutchery is flowing in the drainage and due to cleaning work of drains pending from long time; residue and other waste particles have been collected in it.

The nine feet deep and four feet broad drains have been filled with sludge for more than five feet. Residents complain that despite informing the municipal corporation about the problem it remains unaddressed.

A local resident Savita Rungta grinning over the pathetic condition of the roads said, “The civic body staffs clean the drains once in a blue moon day. Huge amount of refuse and waste material has been deposited in the drainage which has resulted in overflowing from it.  The people of the locality are finding it difficult in navigating through it.”

However, RMC officials claim of sending their staff twice in a month for cleaning the accumulated garbage from the drains.

RMC CEO Manoj Kumar said, “Cleaning work across the city is being carried out in full swing. The drains of the city are cleaned twice in a month. I am not aware about this matter but we will look into it and will try to address their grievances as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the local people after making the city roads filthy have now started dumping their garbage in nearby ground- Jaipal Singh Stadium- the space which is provided for the practice of budding sportsman of the city.

Tiny tots who come here for practice in the evening complains of bad smell coming out from the dumped garbage which enables them to play there.

Aryush Kumar who along with his friends comes here to practice cricket said, “Due to foul smell we are not able to continue our practice here. By holding my breath I pass from it. The concerned officials must do something as it is hampering the state’s future.”

However, Ranchi Municipal Corporation under its renovation project was to revamp the stadium into an international stadium. For this around 3.28 crores amount has also been sanctioned by the government. The plan was to complete by the project by the end of November.

Besides, the plan to construct a shopping complex for the makeshift vegetable and tea stalls owner on the footpath who create public nuisance by adding to traffic congestion is also in shambles.

Meanwhile, RMC officials in the name of ongoing model code of conduct maintained silence over the issue.
