Jharkhand on Thursday distributed over 90,000 doses of Covaxin among the 24 districts to overcome the crisis of this Bharat Biotech-made vaccine, the demand for which has skyrocketed lately. However, the non-availability of this vaccine continued to haunt residents, especially those looking to book slots at Government-run session sites, on Thursday.
While the fresh allotment of Covaxin is likely to bring some relief to the beneficiaries, the limited availability of this vaccine remains a problem in the State, officials said.
The State vaccine store in Ranchi ran out of Covaxin doses on Wednesday and the districts were left with negligible stock to continue the immunisation programme for beneficiaries of this vaccine, data with the National Health Mission (NHM) highlighted. Ranchi had only 100 Covaxin doses in stock before the session sites opened their doors on Wednesday. The count of this vaccine available with the district had almost come down to zero by Thursday morning, sources involved in the immunisation drive said.
