A day after two persons were shot dead and another injured at Mango, the local residents blocked Dimna Road for about three hours on Thursday in protest against the twin murder. The protestors squatted on the road in support of their demands. A long queue of vehicles could be soon on the road as vehicular movement came to stand still.

According to information received here, a gang of three bike-borne criminals fired shots at 21-year-old youth Baiju Shaw at laxminagar on Road No 1 in Sankosai on Wednesday. After which, they attacked a newly-wed woman Shakuntala Mishra of the same locality before firing at yet another youth, Sonu Kumar Rajak. All the three were soon rushed to the Tata Main Hospital, where Baiju and Shakuntala were declared brought dead. Sonu is still undergoing treatment there.

As mark of protest against the incident local residents blocked the busy Dimna Road and demanded removal of the Olidih Thana outpost’s (TOP) officer-in-charge Mahesh Prasad and also raised voice for adequate compensation to the members of bereaved families of the slain Baiju Shaw and Shakuntala Mishra.

The agitators were also demanding the police to immediately arrest the three youth who were involved in the murder. Meanwhile, political leaders Binod Singh from BJP, Rajkumar Srivastava, Rajesh Sau, D Singh and JVM leader Abhay Singh, Feroz Khan, Ajit Singh, Mallu Singh, Deepak Pandey, Chandra Gorai and Congress leader Om Prakash Singh Guddu and hundreds of local residents also lend their support. As the news of blockade spread Superintendent of Police (city) Kartik S and Deputy Superintendents of police ( DSPs) — Amit Kumar, Birendra Prasad and J Kerketta rushed to the spot and assured that every necessary steps would be taken to detect those involved in the twin murders. The blockade, which was put up at around 9.30 am, and was lifted at 1 pm. Kartik convinced the agitated residents that he would talk to the senior SP, Amol V Homkar and discuss on all the three demands.

Meanwhile, the police said the assailants had used nine MM pistol and had fired over 10 rounds of shots.  The police have recovered six empty cartridges from the scene of murder. One of the victims Shakuntala was married to Vinod Mishra on November 24 last year. As the murder victim was a student of Jamshedpur Women’s College’s BA part III and she was supposed to appear in her exam, she had stayed at parents’ house in Sankusai instead of going to her in-law’s house.

SSP Amol V Homkar said that drive was on to nab the culprits involved in the shootout. “Our investigation is on and we are confident of solving the case soon,” he said.
