A day after her report was published prominently by The Pioneer, the tribal girl from Mahuadarn of latehar district, Anima Minj, is flooded with assistance. First, the Chief Minister's Office swung into action on Wednesday morning and contacted this newspaper for taking Anima to Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
"Are you in contact with the girlIJ Bring her here. I would like to meet her in my office," said the CM to the newspaper's correspondent over the phone. On reaching the CMO the CM inquired about her problems, which included her polio-hit leg besides finance, boosted her moral and finally presented a cheque of Rs2 lakh to Anima to get admitted in the MBBS course.
"Do not worry about money. If you need more I will give you. The Government would provide all help for your studies. You just focus on becoming a doctor," the CM told her with a thumbs-up in the presence of Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, Development Commissioner Amit Khare and top officials.
More good news came from Jharkhand High Court when the Division Bench of Chief Justice Virender Singh directed the Chief Secretary of the State to arrange for the prerequisite Demand Draft for admission. The Bench further directed the Chief Secretary to pay Rs50,000 to the father of the girl to meet the ancillary expenses towards her education.
The court also directed the Principal Secretary of Health, Medical Education & Family Welfare Department and Principal Secretary of Welfare Department to explore and adhere to all modes through which necessary assistance can be rendered to the girl for pursuing her studies in order to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.
The noble gesture for the 20-year-old did not stop here. People like former Jamshedpur MP Ajay Kumar, Central Excise and Custom Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sahu, IG Rezi Dungdung, Retd IG Shital Oraon, Rural SP of Ranchi RK lakra besides several doctors and social activists came forward to extend a helping hand to the girl.
Anima, despite coming from the Naxal hotbed of lahetar district and belonging to a marginalised family managed to crack the prestigious All India Pre-Medical Test exam through NEET-2016. She secured the eighth rank in the country, first in Jharkhand in the ST-physically-handicapped category and was offered a MBBS seat at the prestigious Grant Medical College & Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
However, the college had sought two demand drafts of Rs65,000 and Rs12,000 for giving admission over there which was a tough task for her father Basudeo Minj who migrates every year in search of living for the family of eight. "I give thanks to all those who helped me, otherwise my dream would have been shattered," said an overwhelmed Anima, who is now getting ready to leave for Mumbai on Thursday.
