Outgoing coal firm to fight pending cases of Kathoutia mines

A total of ten civil and criminal cases against a private coal operational firm called Kathoutia coal mines here in Palamu will be fought over in the competent court of law by the company no matter it stands auctioned, said the general manager of this mines Rajeev K Singh.

Talking to The Pioneer Rajeev said: “These cases are our liabilities. This company has to take them to their logical end. The Hindalco, which has won the auction of this mines, will not have to do anything for this legal liability. This company is fit enough to do this job.”

“Till March 31, these mines belong to the Usha Martin group. There after the Ministry of Coal, Government of India will be invoking the Coal Mines Special Provision Ordinance for its transition from Usha Martin to Hindalco. The Ministry of coal will mediate”, he added.

About the assets and liabilities, the GM said, “The new operator will have to see the compensatory aspects.”

This company has built up civil structures planning, design and all these are to be met by the new entrant of this mine.

Sources said cases of 150 families hang fire as their lands have gone into this mining.

About these families the GM said, “Under rehabilitation and resettlement these families are to be taken care of. Employment to one in these families is to be given.”

The task before Hindalco will be a too pressing one, he reminded.

Asked in lighter vein if Rajeev Kumar would like to hold the same place in the new set up owned by Hindalco Rajeev said, “How can I say anything on this issue. let the new company take a decision in this regard.”

Sources said a batch of 70 to 80 cases of local employment continues to be a pain in neck for the new company.

Rajeev said the transitional phase will be bereft of any rancor as the outgoing company will like the new one to retain the fleet of personnel of this mine to its best capacity.
