Noted ophthalmologists of Jharkhand Dr Bharti Kashyap took part in the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Annual Conference at lisbon, Portugal between October 7 and 11. During the conference, Dr Kashyap presented two scientific papers before renowned eye surgeons of the world, who are specialists of Femto laser Cataract and lasik surgery.
In her research paperon Femto laser Cataract Surgery Dr Bharti Kashyap informed that in cataract the Femto laser surgery technique is safer than Phaco surgery and also vision comes early for the patients after the Femto laser surgery. "In our country patients come for operations when their cataract becomes hard and in such situation Femto laser is safer than Phaco surgery," she said.
During the conference it was also discussed that in near future the technology will be cheaper and will benefit the masses at large. Many patients cannot take advantage of the technology as it is expensive. This technology is appropriate for those patients whose cataract is ripe where eye pressure is increased.
Dr Kashyap also presented a paper on those cataract patients who have cylinder power problem apart from cataract. She informed that approx 70 % of the general cataract population has at least 0.50 D of astigmatism, and estimated 40 % of the general cataract population has 1.00 D astigmatism. Cataract surgery is regarded as a refractive surgery, aiming pseudophakic emmetropia, which makes eliminating corneal astigmatism critical.
Through her paper she ascertained that results of Toric foldable IOls are superior to that of arcuate incisions on cornea in patients who have cylinder power between 0.75 diopter and 1.25 diopter.
Dr Kashyap is the only eye surgeon from Jharkhand, who took park in this conference, which was attended by thousands of ophthalmologists from across the world and exchanged the latest advancements in research, ideas on cataract and lasik surgery.
Earlier, in the year 2016-17, Dr Kashyap had presented several scientific papers in Asia Pacific Academy, Asia Pacific Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, European and American Academy' annual conference and received huge applaud.
